At Woodlands Park Primary, we understand that technology plays an extremely important role in society today. We endeavour to deliver a high-quality computing education which equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Through our Computing curriculum, children are taught the skills, values and ethics to enable them to participate effectively and safely in our digital world.   

Our Computing curriculum enables children to become effective users of technology who: 

• can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation  

• can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems  

• can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems  

• are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology. 

At Woodlands Park Primary we take internet safety extremely seriously. We have an Online Safety Policy that provides guidance for teachers and children about how to use the internet safely. We also work closely with the local Police to help us spread the message about online safety and responsibilities.  

The first topics of the academic year for all children have explicit online safety links so that children understand how to stay safe online and report any concerns they may have when using technology and is then taught continually throughout the year. In addition, we support parents with their own knowledge and understanding of online safety by offering workshops for online safety training sessions and we offer advice and practical strategies within our weekly newsletters.
